Kovachevitsa — a general view of the village

Kovachevitsa — a day among the stone houses of the Rhodopes

Kovachevitsa is a historical and architectural reserve in the Western Rhodopes. Visit it for the stone architecture and a walk through the village, and if you want to combine the cultural route with a spa, look at a stay at Bozhe Ime Spa & Park in Baldevo.

Walk slowly

Here the interest lies in the overall look of the streets, the stone walls and the roofs, not just in one spot for a photo. Among the places presented on the national tourism portal is the church of St Nicholas. Check on site whether the church is open and be considerate of the people who live in the village.

Combining it with Leshten

Kovachevitsa and Leshten complement each other as an architectural outing. Do not turn them into a contest for the number of photos. For one day choose a longer visit to one and a short stop in the other; for a more relaxed trip, spread them over two days.

Hikes are a separate programme

Sini Vir and Kozia Kamak are among the routes around Kovachevitsa. They are not a village walk and need separate checks of access, waymarking and terrain. Do not add them automatically to a day with little daylight left.

Return to your holiday

A stay in Baldevo is an option when you want different days: architecture today, rest tomorrow. Choose the Bozhe Ime complex as your base and leave enough time to get back, instead of planning dinner straight after the last stop.
